Financial Relief

Since 2021, we have demonstrated our ability as working-class leaders who come from the community to govern and steward financial resources by redistributing $2M+ in flexible financial assistance to 700+ working-class, primarily working-class families through a simple and accessible process through trusted community members.

We started in January 2021 with a modest privately funded pilot redistributing ~ $100K to 100+ local working-class families in Mountain View that had fallen through the cracks. Led by our 7 community leaders, we leveraged trusted relationships and networks in schools, churches, community groups, etc. to quietly identify and provide critical financial support to families who were among the hardest hit during COVID. Based on this unprecedented community-led effort, the City of Mountain View allocated $1M of American Rescue Plan funding for COVID relief in 2021 to be redistributed by MV Solidarity Fund, and then added another $800K in 2022.

In the coming year, we hope to raise $400K to increase capacity for our working-class Latina leadership to engage in this work, and then also secure ~ $5M in donations, grants, public funding, and/or 0% interest loans to purchase the first building in our community land trust.
