Olga Melo
Olga Melo was born in Veracruz, Mexico. Her community work began 20 years ago with her concern about the poor educational performance of Latino children. She became involved in the education of her children and the community. She was ELAC (English Learner Advisory Council) president and DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Council) representative in the Mountain View Whisman School District, where she advocated for Latino children.
Among her accomplishments is co-founding the Community Action Team (CAT) to promote health, education and collaboration in Mountain View. Currently, she is the CAT President and Community Health Promoter and Educator for Santa Clara County. Olga helped form the Mountain View Tenants Coalition to fight rent control through Measure V (Community Stabilization and Fair Rent Act) passed in November 2016. She graduated from the first Spanish-language Civic Leadership Academy from the City of Mountain View in 2017. This experience empowered her to become a bridge between the city and the community. In 2021, due to the pandemic and the needs of the community, Olga, in collaboration with other women leaders, created the Mountain View Solidarity Fund to support local families to access resources.
